Postings that fulfill Ahpra’s rotational requirements

10 October 2024

Most, if not all, International Medical Graduates on the Standard Pathway will need to fulfill 47 weeks of full-time supervised practice before general registration will be awarded by Ahpra. These 47 weeks are inclusive of at least 10 weeks of medical rotations, 10 weeks of surgical rotations, and 8 weeks of emergency medicine rotations.

Given that full details of what constitutes “medical” and “surgical” rotations are really scarce even on Ahpra’s official website, I have had to email one of the Ahpra officers for clarification. The list of rotations which would fulfill these requirements have been reproduced below for everyone’s information.

Medical rotations

  1. Addiction Medicine
  2. Cardiology
  3. Clinical genetics
  4. Clinical pharmacology

If you wish to rely on a different area of medicine that does not appear in the above list, a Board will need to decide your application as to whether or not you will be granted an unconditional general registration.
