Blog and News
Latest news and information regarding the move to Australia.
The impetus for this blog came after I posted information on Facebook detailing how one might embark on the journey to moving one’s medical career abroad. If you are reading this, I am guessing that you most probably are considering to further your career outside Malaysia. Making this decision is definitely not easy, and I hope to equip you with sufficient knowledge to make a well-informed decision.
At the time of writing, I am a medical doctor (non-specialist IMG) who graduated from a local Malaysian private university and subsequently completed housemanship training in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). I continued to serve in SGH for another 1 year and 6 months before relocating to Australia to widen my professional horizons and pursue further training in paediatrics.
Having been actively involved in advocacy for junior doctors via the Malaysian Medical Association since the year 2020, I quickly realised that many fellow colleagues are looking to make the same career move as I had done. The Australian system is however very foreign and complex in comparison to our Malaysian system, hence the mere thought of relocating can be intimidating. Ensuring that one has all the information one needs makes it a necessity to spend countless of hours poring over websites after website, PDF after PDF. Having already gone through that tedious process, I have attempted to distil the important stuff and point those interested in the right direction by writing here.
Please remember that while I endeavour to provide factually accurate information to the best of my ability, I will fall short. These information may also be outdated by the time you read it. As such, it is crucial for you, the reader, to verify it with official sources rather than depend on sites such as this 100%. In the event mistakes are spotted, I would appreciate it if you could point them out to me at info@drleonardgoh.com so that they may be rectified accordingly. Other feedback and suggestions are highly welcome too, so that the quality of this site may be maintained.
All the best!
